“Dit project vormde een uitdaging maar ook een luxe. Voor dit project bestonden al plannen die vrij concreet waren. Versluys had al grotendeels bepaald hoeveel appartementen met welke oppervlaktes er zouden komen, en ook de indeling van die ruimtes lag in grote lijnen al vast." We konden heel experimenteel de gevel en terrassen onderzoeken op vlak van vorm, uitstraling en materialisatie.
Niet bij elk project kan je zo in detail treden tijdens een onderzoek. Heel vaak word je gehinderd door strenge budgeteisen. Die vereisten waren er nu ook wel, maar ze bevonden zich toch in een iets andere grootteorde.”
Welke kwaliteiten hebt u als kunstverzamelaar nodig?
Een goede kunstverzamelaar heeft een brede kijk op de wereld. Door een jarenlange ervaring, expertise en een uitgebreid netwerk voelt hij of zij de nieuwe opkomende tendensen nog voor ze zich daadwerkelijk manifesteren. Een multiculturele en progressieve ingesteldheid zijn een absolute must. Een succesvolle kunstverzamelaar laat zich voor een deel leiden door zijn gevoelens maar mag daarbij nooit het zakelijke aspect verliezen waarbij hij steeds de toekomstige en potentiële meerwaarde van zijn aangekochte werken voor ogen moet houden.

Hoe pakt u dit zelf aan (welke bronnen, zelf onderzoeken, adviseur …)?
Een goede band en wisselwerking met galerijen en veilinghuizen is cruciaal. Vooral veilinghuizen zijn hierin heel belangrijk omdat zij bepaalde werken en kunstenaars proactief ondersteunen. De ruggensteun van een bekend en gerenommeerd veilinghuis is zonder enige twijfel primordiaal voor de waarde van een kunstwerk op zowel korte als lange termijn.
Welke ruimtes en oppervlaktes hebben jullie momenteel ter beschikking?
BART VERSLUYS_ “Momenteel hebben we nog enkele unieke handelspanden te huur met oppervlaktes tussen de 81 en 227 vierkante meter. Sommige handelspanden zijn volledig instapklaar en andere zijn casco opleverbaar. Al onze handelspanden zijn voorzien van grote glaspartijen waardoor er veel natuurlijk licht binnenvalt met een open en uitnodigende sfeer. De moderne architectuur van onze projecten zorgt voor een stijlvolle uitstraling die perfect aansluit bij de levendige vibe van de wijk. Op Oosteroever zijn er ook voldoende gratis parkeerplaatsen aanwezig voor het cliënteel.
Welke evolutie hebt u zelf doorgemaakt van beginnend verzamelaar tot gekend kunstverzamelaar?
Ikzelf ben al op een jonge leeftijd begonnen met het verzamelen van kunst. Enerzijds was ik erdoor gefascineerd en anderzijds zag ik er ook al snel de zakelijke meerwaarde van in. Ook al heb ik nu contacten over de hele wereld, toch blijf ik nog steeds een voorliefde hebben voor onze eigen Belgische kunstenaars zoals James Ensor of René Magritte. Noem het gerust een vorm van chauvinisme en trots. Los hiervan merk ik ook dat onze Belgische kunstenaars de voorbije jaren internationaal aan populariteit hebben gewonnen. België wordt door velen terecht bekeken als een complex land en een land van soms onmogelijke compromissen. Maar België wordt tevens aanzien als een land met een ontembare creativiteit en een overtreffende vorm van surrealisme. Laat deze unieke mix nu net de succesformule zijn waarop onze hedendaagse en vroegere kunstenaars garen spinnen.
